WELCOME TO MY FATHER'S ANCESTORS PHOTO ALBUM
Ancestors of my father's mother - Ethel May Smith:-
The photo on the right is of Ann Rogers (1808 - 1891) my great great great grandmother! This is the most distant ancestor on that side of the family for whom I have a photo. She married James Hayward in England in 1828. At present I do not have a photo of him. They immigrated to Hobart, Tasmania in 1842. They then moved to Adelaide in 1845 and their eldest daughter Jane married in St Johns Church of England, Halifax Street, Adelaide.
This photo is of Jane Hayward (1829 - 1911) my great great grandmother who was married in 1849 to Newman Emmerton (check out his page)a ticket of leave convict, in Adelaide. Newman served his sentence in and around Hobart and must have followed the family to Adelaide. There is no photo of Newman as my father said he heard that he refused to have his photo taken! He had been transported after a second offence of stealing in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, England. Their eldest daughter, Virginia Jeanette married in the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Norwood S.A.

The photos are of my great grandparents Virginia Jeanette Emmerton (1851 - 1921) who married Samuel Smith (1849 - 1936) Their second daughter, Ethel May was my grandmother and married in the Montacute Methodist Church. Samuel's parents, Charles Smith and Emma (nee Webb) with 2 children travelled from England to Adelaide in 1851 on the ship "Epaminondas".

These are the parents ( my great great grandparents) of Samuel Smith - Charles (1831 - 1911) and Emma (nee Webb) (1831 - 1885) They married in Bridgnorth, England in 1849 and travelled to Adelaide in 1851 with their two children. The marriage certificate showed that the father of Charles was Samuel Smith and of Emma, William Webb who are my great great great grandparents.
Ancestors of my father's father - David Hunter:-
This is believed to be a photo of Samuel Hunter (1797 - 1877) (my great great grandfather) and the father of John Hunter. Samuel was a farmer at Bruslee and was believed to be married to Mary A. Cameron (1807? to ?). Details of Samuels wife are yet to be confirmed. Assuming the known information is correct they were married at Ballyeaston around 1828. Samuel apparently inherited the farm at Bruslee from his father William Hunter (details as yet unknown). It was leased initially but in the 1830's it was purchased from the Marquis of Donegall.

Pictured is John Hunter (1832 - 1917) and Mary (nee Campbell) (Circa1837 - 1923) who were married in Ballylinney, County Antrim, Ireland on 12th February, 1856. Both resided in Bruslee, County Antrim. Mary was married as Mary Linney as she was a foundling and her parents were unknown. It is assumed that she was brought up by a family of Campbells whose name she took as her family name when she and John moved to Scotland. John and Mary are the parents (my great grandparents) of David Hunter (1875 - 1952) my grandfather. David Hunter emmigrated with his parents John & Mary and other siblings; arriving in Adelaide from Portsmouth on the ship "Nebo" in 1882.
