DESCENDANTS OF GOTTFRIED LANGE

(This is an extract from the printed family history detailing the descendants of Gottfried Lange and his wife Anna Rosina Rau. It includes the descendants of their only known son Christian Lange and his wife Anna Dorothea Kurzweg. The information then includes their two sons and one daughter with their marriage partners. It then details the children from these unions but does not include any marriage partners for those children. FIRST GENERATION

1. Gottfried LANGE was born in 1770 in Klemzig, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). He died on 19 Jul 1838 in the ship, Prince George, North Sea.

He was married to Anna Rosina RAU about 1793 in Klemzig, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). Anna Rosina RAU was born in 1765 in Klemzig, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). She died on 11 Jul 1838 in the ship, Prince George, North Sea.

This memorial tablet from the church in Klemzig (Klepsk) in Poland has the name RAU on the top. It refers to a Prussian soldier who died in WW1 named "Jauger" Hermann RAU. The following information was provided concerning the word "Jauger". 'Jauger is no part of the given name of Hermann but -correctly JÄGER (JAEGER) - a military degree. The Jäger Battalions were created during the 30-years-war (1618-1648) as an elite detachment. They turned out to be sharpshooters'.
It is interesting to postulate that he may be a descendant of a relation of Anna Rosina RAU, the wife of Gottfried Lange. The possibility is quite high as it is likely that some family members did not immigrate with pastor Kavel in 1838 and remained in the town/area.

+2 i. Mr. Christian LANGE.

It is not known for sure if Gottfried and Anna had any other children but if they did they may have remained in Prussia or have died. Infant mortality at this time was high. No research has been undertaken regarding this or if any other children followed the family to Australia. At the time the family history was prepared the existing data and family memories lead us to believe that Christian was the only surviving child. In 2004 a descendant of the Schilling family suggested that Anna Rosina Schilling (nee Lange) with her husband and children, who also travelled on the Prince George may have be related to Gottfried and Anna. It is conjectured that she was Christian's cousin being a daughter to a brother of Gottfried. She was born in 1804 and is therefore 10 years younger than Christian. Langmeil and Klemzig in Prussia were parishes served by Pastor Kavel and there would have been interaction between the members of the parishes. SECOND GENERATION

2. Mr. Christian LANGE was born on 30 Aug 1794 in Klemzig, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). He Arrived on 21 Nov 1838 in Port Adelaide, Sth Aust. He died on 25 Oct 1884 in Ebenezer Sth. Aust.. Christian and his family arrived in South Australia on the Prince George and after a short time at Port Adelaide they and the other immigrants moved to a site adjacent to the River Torrens. It was here that they established a settlement which they called Klemzig after the place in Prussia where they formerly lived. He was married to Anna Dorothea KURZWEG about 1818 in Klemzig, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). Anna Dorothea KURZWEG was born on 1 Jul 1793 in Golzen, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). She died on 22 Nov 1854 in Langmeil, nr Tanunda Sth Aust.. 3. Maria Elisabeth LANGE was born on 14 Oct 1819 in Klemzig, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). She died on 1 Apr 1903 in Tantanoola Sth. Aust..

She was married to Mr Johann Samuel SCHULZ in 1841 in Klemzig, Adelaide, Sth Aust. Mr Johann Samuel SCHULZ was born on 14 Dec 1819 in Klemzig, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). He died on 3 Dec 1887 in Tantanoola Sth. Aust.. Johanne Samuel was the son of George Friederich Schulz and Anna Elisabeth (nee Woidt) The family had travelled to South Australia on the Prince George with the family of Maria. He also had 2 sisters. 9 iv. Maria Elisabeth SCHULZ was born on 31 Jul 1852 in Rowland Flat Sth Aust. She died Unknown in not known.

10 v. Bertha Mathilda SCHULZ was born on 31 Jan 1858 in Rowland Flat Sth Aust. She died on 29 Sep 1939 in Millicent Sth Aust.

11 vi. Otto Julius SCHULZ was born on 31 Jul 1861 in Rowland Flat Sth Aust. The place of death is not known for certain but is probably in the Glencoe area where he and his wife operated a dairy for 44 years which was taken over by his son Bertie on his death. He died on 17 Sep 1939 in Glencoe Sth Aust.

4. Mr. Johann Friedrich LANGE was born on 18 Dec 1827 in Klemzig, nr Zullichau, Brandenberg, Posen (Prussia). He died on 26 Jan 1898 in Ebenezer Sth. Aust..

He was married to Johanne Elisabeth SCHACHE on 29 Oct 1851 in Langmeil Lutheran Church, Tanunda Sth Aust. Johanne Elisabeth SCHACHE was born on 2 Jul 1832 in Dieban, nr Steinau, Silesia, Posen (Prussia). She died on 13 Mar 1913 in Ebenezer Sth. Aust.. Johanne was the daughter of Carl Gottlieb Schache, a mason, and his wife Maria Rosina (nee Vogel) who had arrived in South Australia in 1848, They lived at Halletts Valley nr Rowland Flat Sth Aust.
